The Sixth Major Sin - Not Fating On A Day Of Ramadan Without Excuse.

Allah (swt) says in the Quran:

“O you who believe, fasting is ordained for you, as it was ordained for those before you, in order that you gain Taqwa (conscious of Allah) - for a fixed number of days. But if any of you is ill or on a journey, the (required) number (is to be made up) of other days. (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:183-184)

Ibn ‘Omar (ra) reported Allah’s messenger (saw) as saying: “Islam is built on five things: The Shahada (witnessing that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah and that muhammad is His servant and messenger), the Prayer, the Zakat, The Hajj, and the Sawm (fasting) during Ramadan”. (Bukhari and Muslim)

The Prophet (saw) also said: “The one who did not fast on a (particular) day of Ramadan without a (Valid) excuse will not be able to make it up by fasting a (whole) lifetime, even if he were to do that” (Ibn Majah, Abu Dawoud, Tirmithi and Ahmad)

Fasting on Ramadan is one of the five pillars of Islam, not observing it, is a major sin and denying it, lead to Disbelieve.

O Allah give us strength and patience to fast on the month of Ramadan, and keep us steadfast on Your religion.

In the next post InshAllah we will explain about Major Sin # 6 - Not Fasting On A Day Of Ramadan Without Excuse.

8 Basic Errors Muslims make when Paying Zakat Al-Fitr

I feel compelled to put this together because I’ve seen
the following errors being committed even since I was a
young boy. In sha Allah, you can help me spread the word by
sharing this article with your community, friends and
family.

What is Zakat ul-Fitr? Think “Iftar”, Zakat Ul-Fitr is
the charity that we pay at the end of Ramadan. Here is the
foundational hadith that establishes the obligation of
Zakat ul-Fitr:

Ibn `Umar reported that the Prophet (sal Allahu alayhi wa
sallam), made Zakat al-Fitr compulsory on every slave,
freeman, male, female, young and old among the Muslims; one
Saa` (a measurement: four double handfuls) of dried dates or
one Saa` of barely.
[Sahih Bukhari - Arabic/English, vol. 2, p. 339, no. 579]

To understand Zakat ul-Fitr, here is a good summary of it:

But unfortunately, our community makes some basic errors in
the payment of Zakat Al-Fitr that must be clarified.

Narrated Ibn `Umar (may Allah be pleased with him): I heard Allâh’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) saying, When you see the crescent (of the moon) for the month of Ramadân, start observing Saum (fast), and when you see the crescent (of the moon) for the month of Shawwâl, stop observing Saum (fast); and if the sky is overcast and you can’t see it (the crescent) then regard the month as having 30 days. (Bukhari)

Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: A person came to the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) and said: Messenger of Allah, I am ruined. He (the Prophet) asked: What has brought about your ruin? He said: I have had intercourse with my wife during the month of Ramadan. Upon this he (the Prophet) asked: Can you set a slave free? He said: No. He (the Prophet) again asked: Can you fast for two consecutive months? He said: No. He (the Prophet) asked: Can you provide food to sixty poor people? He said: No. He then sat down and (in the meanwhile) there was brought to the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) a basket which contained dates. He (the Prophet) said: Give these dates in Charity. He (the man) asked: Am I to give to one who is poorer than me? There is no family poorer than mine between the two lava plains of Medina. The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) laughed till his molar teeth became visible and said: Go and give it to your family to eat. (Muslim)
